SIX LOCAL YOUNSTERS MAKE THE GRADE
Tuesday, 8 February 2011
Monday 7th might have been the first day of National Apprenticeship Week but for six London youngsters it marked the end of three years of training and the start of their professional career as fully qualified painters and decorators.Billy Neale (21), Beau O’Brien (20), Rikki Turner (20), Sanadul Hussain (20), Joe Ayres (21) and Alison Lynott (19) have just completed their three year apprenticeships at Islington-based K&M McLoughlin Decorating Limited, the largest painting and decorating firm within the M25 and London. They learnt their skills on some three of the most prestigious sites in London; the Olympics, St Pancras and newly-refurbished Savoy Hotel, and now have been given permanent positions within the company.
“We have always been committed to apprenticeships and have trained more than 60 over the past 12 years, many of whom are now my most senior foremen and managers,” says Managing Director, Kevin McLoughlin. “I have no doubt that these youngsters will not only have a great future in this trade but also will make a significant contribution to the on-going success of this business.”
The newly-qualified painters and decorators were presented with their graduation certificates by The Mayor of Islington, Councillor Mouna Hamitouche, when she visited the company during National Apprenticeship Week (7-11 February) to see The K&M Apprentice Decorating School, the first of its kind in the UK.
