K&M TAKES TOP HONORS AT THE CIOB & ODA Awards
Thursday, 15 September 2011

K&M McLoughlin Decorating Limited took top honours in a one-off awards scheme¹ run by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), in partnership with the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) on September 8th 2011.
There were 86 entries in total for 13 categories, all from companies that had worked on constructing the Olympic site. Not only did K&M McLoughlin win the category for ‘Outstanding Contribution in Employment & Skills’ for its commitment in providing training and learning opportunities to improve and increase the skilled workforce in the industry but its Managing Director, Kevin McLoughlin, also received ‘The Chairman’s Medal’.

The recipient for this top award was selected from the winners of all 13 categories and was presented to the person deemed by the judges to have made the most outstanding contribution in their field.
Kevin received the medal for two reasons. The first was for his company’s total dedication to creating a diverse work force, training local young people to an exceptionally high standard and enabling long-term employment for many.
Its work on the Olympic site provided the perfect opportunity to increase its apprenticeships threefold and 27 of its youngsters had the opportunity to learn key skills on this historic site.
The second reason was for Kevin’s forward thinking in sustainable and environmental issues. Already the winner of the 2010 Giant Green Business Award for Waste Minimisation, Kevin is committed to developing tools and products for the future which have minimum impact on the environment.
“I am truly honoured to be presented with this award and I am particularly delighted that our commitment to training, particularly the work we have done on the Olympic site, has been recognised in this way. I am a passionate believer in the value of apprenticeships, having been an apprentice myself and now having seen so many young men and women successfully pass through apprenticeships at our firm,” says Kevin McLoughlin.
¹ The awards were a celebration of the people involved in delivering the construction projects for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The unique set of awards recognizes the efforts and achievements of individuals who, collectively, have succeeded in setting a new benchmark for project management and construction.
